Leadership Promotion And Expanded Role
Effective June 7, 2024, Jennifer Salinas, Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Cerence (CRNC), has been elevated to the newly created role of Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. Ms. Salinas will oversee the company’s daily corporate operations and administrative tasks in her new role.
Along with working with the leadership team to develop and track company-level and functional targets, she also facilitates strategic planning and advances process and policy changes. She will maintain her duties as General Counsel and continue leading the company’s Global Technology Services organization, reporting directly to Cerence CEO Stefan Ortmanns.
Technological Innovations With BMW Group
Recently, Cerence announced a collaboration with BMW Group to integrate Cerence Audio AI into the BMW Personal Pilot L3 conditional automated driving system to enhance safety features. BMW will detect approaching emergency vehicles’ sirens using Cerence Emergency Vehicle Detection (EVD). As part of Cerence’s Audio AI suite, the EVD system leverages the distinct sound patterns of emergency siren signals to reliably detect police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances.
This technology enables an autonomous vehicle to yield appropriately—in L3 systems, this means advising the driver to take control and react. When activating BMW Personal Pilot L3, the system will detect nearby emergency vehicles and delay activation as necessary.
